Requirements
Requirements to Demonstrate Knowledge of English
To be eligible to be awarded the Iowa Seal of Biliteracy, each student shall demonstrate proficiency in English.
- Minimum proficiency scores on one of the following exams must be met to be considered.
- The district will set the submission date of assessment proficiency scores and communicate that with students.

ACT – American College Testing | English 18 |
ELPA21 – English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century in grades 9- 12. | 4 or 5 in all domains (reading, writing, speaking, listening) which equates to overall proficiency of 3 |
ISASP or Iowa Assessments | Proficiency |
AP Language or AP Literature Exam | 3 |
SAT | English 470 |
Requirements to Demonstrate Knowledge of a Second Language
To be eligible to be awarded the Iowa Seal of Biliteracy, students shall demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English.
